The 19-year-old developer was amazed at the game's success, but had no intention of making money from it. In his interviews he was honest in saying that the idea of the application was not original, he only made a modification.
Despite this, 2048 was much more popular than similar games released earlier, and after the possibility to download the Android and iOS versions two months after the first release, the whole world started to talk about it, without exaggeration. Not the least of these, of course, was the fact that the application was distributed free of charge. Even publications such as the Times, Wall Street Journal and Business Insider wrote positive reviews about the game.
In addition to the original version of 2048 over time appeared quite a lot of additions and even varieties of the game, because it is distributed with open source code. So, in many versions, leaderboards have appeared, the control has been adapted for touch screens. Several modifications were released, where Tetris figures, images of Doctor Who characters, etc. were used instead of the standard tile with numbers. There are even separate design sites where anyone can use anything they want as a tile. For example, students at one university created a version with photos of their teachers, where a tile with a rating of 2 corresponded to a photo of a guidance counselor, and 2048 corresponded to the dean of the faculty.
In addition, the code of the game 2048 is also used for educational purposes to teach programming.
